First quarter of the year starts off with an bang. The PPPVFC members have been busy with ems and fire runs since the first of the year. Just to give you an update. Fire Runs: Working house fire in our first due, child struck by auto, Multiple engine company runs, Tanker cover-up to Cecilton, field piece and argo assist station 26 on multi alarm field/woods/marsh fire. BLS unit is having a run every other day.
Around the firehouse, new carpet was installed, new fire gear arrived, MRU committie is moving forward, new shed project still in the works, New equipment placed onto selective rigs.
Training: Members attended 24 hour refresher class for NR-EMT-B, NIMS 100,200,700 class taught.
Annual control burn was held, thanks to the assistance from OFC ( pic on ofc424.com)
Annual Banquet was held and 2 members were given their 30 years active serivce awards, top fire and ems responder was John Newman, Life membership was given to 3 members. Various other awards were also given out.

Station 29 was alerted for Tanker 29 to assist Brandywine Hundred (11) on a mulch fire. Tanker 29 responded with a crew of 4 and was in operation for 7 hrs suppling multi-units.Crew assisted with fire supression. Just 24 hour later, Brandywine Hundred (11) requested for Tanker 29 to respond back to the mulch fire to assist with putting out some hot spots.Tanker 29 responded with a crew of 5 and was in operation for 1 hour.
On November 25th at 12:22 hrs the Port Penn Fire Co. with Del. City and Lower Alloway Creek Sta. 18 where dispatched to a possible lobster boat on fire in the Delaware River in the area of artificial island. Mru 29 went responding with a crew of 5 under the command of Deputy Chief Speakman. After placing 29-M1 in the water trooper 4 advised that the correct location was around the mouth of the canal. The 2 occupants left the vessel in a small inflatable prior to rescue boats arriving. Deputy 15 advised fireboard that he would take command from the shore and Deputy 29 took operations from 29-M1. 29-M1 went o/s with a 43 ft. pleasure craft well involved with fire. The 2 occupants had since boarded a private boat that was in the area. 15-m1 and Salem marine 18 went o/s at the same time. The three rescue boats placed 5 lines in service in an attempt to suppress the fire. Command asked for two additional rescue boats to help with operations which brought 20-M1 (Holloway Terrace) and N.C.C. 18-M1 (Goodwill). The vessel was also found to be full of fuel at around 430 gallons of diesel. 29-M1 and Salem marine 18 towed the vessel into Delaware City marina where 15-5 was awaiting our arrival to overhaul the vessel. The incident was placed under control around 17:05 hrs turning the vessel over to private towing and the owners.

PPVFC and OFC participated in joint training 2 DSFS on Monday November 19th. All students were refreshed with hose handling and aggressive interior operations. All student’s did an excellent job throughout the night. PPVFC would like to thank OFC again for the great teamwork and excellent working relationship we have. We look forward to training together again. The Chief’s and Training Dept’s would like to thank all of the members who have participated over the past year in training. We look forward to another great training year in the year to come. Thanks again and have a safe and happy holiday!!!!
On November 14th 2007@ 1517 New Castle County Dispatch Center recieved a call from an duck hunter in distress in the area of Delaware River @ Augustine Beach.Station 29 was alerted for this run. MRU 29 with marine 2 responded with a crew of 3 to Augustine Beach . They were advised, that this was an high ranking fire company offical in a 17ft duckboat stranded with motor problems and lack of gas ,floating 200ft south of the ramp. Upon arrival the beach, 29 marine 2 launched and retrived the boat in distress and towed back to the ramp. MRU29 placed scene under control, chief back on land.
On Tuesday Novemeber 13th, PPVFC and OFC (4&24) participated in joint training at the DSFS Flammable Gases Pad. Instuctor’s Harry Elliott and Herb Netsch went over techniques used to contain these type of incidents. Special thanks to the members from Odessa for making every effort to participate after Rescue 24 had some mechanical problems on the way to training. The chief’s department would also like to thank all the members for their continued participation in traing classes.
On Sunday, Novemeber 11, 2007 @ 0949 HRS, PPVFC with Medic 5A was dispatched for an MVC involving a motorcycle at the intersection of Port Penn Rd @ Pole Bridge Rd. 29-8 and A-29 went responding @ 0951hrs. Rescue 29 went en route @ 0952 HRS under the command of Deputy Chief Speakman with Engine 29-4 under the command of FF/EMT Lancaster responding @ 0954 Hrs. 29-8 went arrival with 2 vehicle collision with one being a motorcycle and assumed Port Penn Rd command. He immediatly requested a second BLS unit which brought B-15(Del. City) to the scene. Pt 1 was a trauma code that was thrown from his motorcycle after colliding head-on with a small sedan. A-29 started patient care upon arrival of the motorcycle driver. Rescue 29 upon it’s arrival was directed to pt care of pt number 2 who was in the sedan. Assistant Chief Campbell along with FF/EMT Cassie Lancaster treated pt # 2 until B-15 arrived. Marine Captain John Newman with the help of FF Nate Eaton assisted in securing an area for Trooper 4 to land. Pt #1 was packaged and transported to CER via Trooper 4 with half of medic 5 riding on trooper 4. Pt #2 was transported by B-15 to CER also. 29-8 placed scene under control @ 1014 HRS with all patient’s transported. Fire Police from Sta. 15 stood by with DSP to help close the road down until DSP was done their investigation. Great job by all and thanks to B-15 and Sta. 15 fire police for their assistance.
