Battalion Chief Kevin O Turner began his fire service career in 1982 as a volunteer firefighter with the Christiana Fire Company. During his tenure with Christiana he has served in a company officer capacity as an Ambulance Lieutenant, Rescue Captain, Engine Captain and finally as an Assistant Chief.

In 1989, he was hired as a career firefighter with the Wilmington Fire Department, during this time he served in various engine and ladder companies along with serving on the city’s Heavy Rescue Squad. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2008 and worked in various engine companies, as well as being assigned to the department’s Administrative/Support Services section.

Lieutenant Turner was promoted to Captain in 2014 and assigned to the Fire Marshal’s Office and the Information Technology unit. Most recently he has been assigned as a floating officer assigned to engine and ladder companies throughout the City of Wilmington. Battalion Chief Turner has also worked as Firefighter/EMT in a part-time capacity for the Port Penn Fire Company since 2012 until recent hired full time as an Administrative Manager nd then promoted to Chief Executive Officer.

Battalion Chief Turner brings many technical skills to his new position including: Incident Command, EMS, Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, Hazmat, Health & Safety, Information Technology, Marine Operations, Strategic Planning, Fire Academy and Officer Training and Labor Relations. During his education he has attended the National Fire Academy, the Delaware State Fire School, the Wilmington Fire Academy and the Delaware Technical and Community College where he received four (4) Associates Degrees in Fire Protection Engineering, Fire Protection - Fire Science, Safety Management and Emergency Services Management.
